ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
Passive Isolator Monitoring
Trainees learn the purpose of passive monitoring, how to identify appropriate sample sites, and the procedures for setting and retrieving samples through interactive hands-on simulations.
Module Overview
Altoura's Passive Isolator Monitoring Training Module is an immersive,
hands-on simulation that standardize passive monitoring behaviour across
teams, improving consistency, compliance, and contamination control in
isolator operations.
In this interactive module, learners explore the purpose of passive monitoring and its role in identifying airborne or surface contaminants that could compromise isolator integrity and impact product quality during operations. Trainees then practice the full procedure for placing passive monitoring media (eg, settle plates) with precision and aseptic discipline.
Through guided scenarios, learners identify and select appropriate sampling locations based on contamination risk focusing on high-traffic areas, airflow paths, and critical surfaces. The simulation emphasizes correct handling throughout the process, reinforcing that unnecessary contact or placing the sample anywhere other than the intended site can invalidate the sample.
SKILLS covered
- Understanding Passive Monitoring Purpose
- Sampling Site Selection and Risk Awareness
- Aseptic Handling of Monitoring Media

Learning Objective
01
Detect airborne and surface contamination that may compromise isolator sterility and product quality
02
Identify sampling sites based on contamination risk. including high-traffic areas, airflow paths, critical surfaces
03
Understand and avoid actions that invalidate samples (e.g., touching or setting plates down in unintended areas)
04
Recognize why site choice influences trend reliability and contamination detection
05
Maintain aseptic technique to prevent introducing contamination during placement
